Mindset coaching – what even does that mean? To me, mindset coaching is a really powerful tool that will help you to transform your life. We go to the gym to exercise our bodies to be fitter and stronger; a mindset coach will do the same but for your mind.  Given that your mind controls everything you do, this is incredibly important. Achieving success in life is not just about having the right skills and knowledge, but also having the right mindset.

The way you think and perceive things can have a big impact on how you approach challenges, overcome obstacles, and achieve your goals. I really like to challenge my clients and the way they are thinking.  Years ago I worked with a coach and she really opened my eyes to the power of our thoughts, how much they can influence our lives but ultimately, how we are in control of our own thoughts.

Thoughts never stay the same and are constantly changing. Take this for a small example….you go to bed disgruntled because your husband didn’t help as much as you’d have liked with dinner preparation (the fact you didn’t ask him to and he’s not telepathic isn’t the point here). In the morning you wake and you’ve completely forgotten about it, in fact you skip out of bed ready to take on the day.  What’s changed here?  The situation hasn’t.  Your thoughts have.

Thoughts come and they go and a good mindset coach will help you to realise which thoughts are serving you, which aren’t, and how you can shift to a strong and positive mindset.

What Is Positive Mindset Coaching?

Positive mindset coaching is a specialized form of coaching that focuses on cultivating a positive and empowering outlook on life. It is a process that guides individuals towards developing a growth-oriented mindset, fostering resilience, and harnessing the power of positivity to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

At its core, positive mindset coaching encourages individuals to become more aware of their thoughts and beliefs, identifying and challenging any negative or limiting patterns that might be holding them back. Through a supportive and non-judgmental approach, a positive mindset coach empowers clients to reframe their thinking, replacing self-doubt and pessimism with self-belief and optimism.

How Mindset Coaching Can Uplevel Your Life

There are many way mindset coaching can help you to with self-improvement, from learning the fine art of self-care, to mastering a warrior mindset. Here are some of the ways mindset coaching can help you uplevel your life.

#1 Identify Limiting Beliefs And Negative Thought Patterns

Many of us have beliefs that hold us back from achieving our full potential. A mindset coach can help you identify these limiting beliefs and replace them with empowering ones. Unless someone has pointed these out to you before, there’s every chance you’ve never even noticed you have these beliefs/patterns as they can be deeply ingrained in your subconscious – it’s just a way you think and it’s all you know. However, your mindset coach will spot these a mile off and will help you bring them to the surface, so you can start to work on overcoming them.

I’m not good enough and I don’t have enough time are two classic examples of limiting beliefs but they are just two of many which we consistently tell ourselves. Ultimately they stop us from moving forward in life as we believe them to be true.

Try and listen to what you’re telling yourself, you’ll know the voice I mean (it’s the negative whisper). The next time you notice yourself saying a negative/limited belief, recognise that it is just that, a belief, not the truth.  And, in that particular scenario, ask yourself if it’s true? Do you really not have enough time? Will everyone really judge you? How do you know you’ll fail? You see, you don’t.

A growth mindset coach will help you to recognise your limiting beliefs and will work with you to replace them with more empowering ones, such as ‘I am capable of achieving my goals’ or ‘I am enough’.

#2 Building Self-Confidence and Self-Belief

Self-confidence and self-belief are the cornerstones of personal growth and success. When you believe in yourself and your abilities, you’re more likely to take on new challenges, pursue your goals, and navigate through life with a sense of empowerment. Low-self-confidence and self-esteem can have devastating consequences to your emotional, mental and even physical wellbeing, as well as your ability to achieve your goals in life. A positive mindset coach can play a pivotal role in helping you build and strengthen your self-confidence and self-belief.

A positive mindset coach will work with you to increase your self-esteem and confidenceSometimes, we overlook our past achievements and underestimate our capabilities. A mindset coach will encourage you to reflect on your successes, big or small, and recognize your strengths and abilities. Celebrating your accomplishments can boost your self-confidence and serve as a foundation for future endeavours.

Self-talk can significantly influence how you perceive yourself and your abilities. A mindset coach will guide you to cultivate positive self-talk and eliminate self-critical thoughts. By speaking kindly to yourself and acknowledging your worth, you’ll foster a healthier self-image and greater self-belief. Failure is a natural part of life, and everyone experiences setbacks at some point. A positive mindset coach will help you view failure as a stepping stone to growth and learning. Embracing failure with a growth mindset enables you to bounce back stronger and maintain your self-belief even in challenging times. Confidence often grows with competence. A mindset coach can assist you in identifying areas where you’d like to develop new skills or improve existing ones. As you build competence in various areas of your life, your self-confidence will naturally flourish.

#3 Cultivating Self-Awareness

Self-awareness is another cornerstone of personal growth and transformation. Many of us are painfully unaware that we lack self-awareness, and once we become aware of the fact it’s tough to know how to fix it. Improving self-awareness involves gaining a deep understanding of your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and the impact they have on your life. A positive mindset coach can help you cultivate self-awareness, empowering you to make conscious choices and create positive changes in various aspects of your life.

A mindset coach may encourage you to engage in mindful reflection regularly. This involves setting aside time to enhance your emotional intelligence and observe your thoughts, emotions, and reactions without judgment. By being fully present in the moment, you gain valuable insights into your patterns of thinking and how they influence your actions.

Self-awareness involves identifying the situations or experiences that trigger specific emotional responses in you. A mindset coach can help you explore these triggers and understand the underlying beliefs or past experiences that might be influencing your reactions. A positive mindset coach can also encourage you to seek feedback from trusted friends, family, or colleagues. Hearing others’ perspectives can offer valuable insights into your blind spots and areas for growth. Overall the process is a great way to improve your relationships, not only with yourself but also with others.

Mindfulness practices, such as meditation and deep breathing exercises, can help you become more present and attuned to your thoughts and emotions. These techniques can be integrated into your daily routine to enhance self-awareness. A mindset coach will guide you in identifying your core values and beliefs. Understanding what truly matters to you provides a framework for aligning your actions with your authentic self and creating a more fulfilling life.

Developing self-awareness often involves embracing vulnerability and being open to exploring your emotions and experiences. A positive mindset coach creates a safe and supportive space for you to explore these feelings without judgment. Self-awareness can also sometimes reveal areas for growth or past mistakes. A mindset coach will emphasise the importance of self-compassion during this process. Treating yourself with kindness and understanding enables you to learn and grow without being overly critical of yourself.

#4 Developing A Growth Mindset

A growth mindset is the belief that you can develop and grow your abilities through effort and learning and this mindset is essential for achieving your goals and reaching your full potential. One of the great benefits of working with a coach is they will help you develop a growth mindset by teaching you how to embrace challenges, learn from failures, and persist in the face of setbacks.  What has worked for you in the past?  What didn’t work for you? What might you have done differently?  What did you learn from this?

It’s about seeing the bigger picture, expanding our minds’ view.  Sometimes I speak with clients and their minds are so closed off to everything, full of negative thoughts and beliefs that they literally cannot see anything past the situation in which they live.  If you have a fixed mindset and believe that you can only do the job you are in (for example), you will believe that there is nothing else out there for you, you are completely fixed and your mind cannot be changed (‘it is what it is’ state of mind).  This way of thinking does not serve you and a mindset coach will help you adopt a growth mindset. It’s about opening your eyes to possibility.

#5 Creating A Clear Vision For Your Future

Mindset coaching is an integral part of life coaching and it is my job to help you create a clear vision for your future. Having a healthy mindset will help you to identify your goals and aspirations but sometimes the vision can seem too far away; too big and too difficult to even consider. However, a strong mindset coach will help you to turn the  ‘impossible’ into ‘I’m possible’, helping you realise that you can achieve anything you want with the right frame of mind.  We do this by breaking-up your goals and aspirations into bite-size chunks which we know are achievable.  Completing simple steps each day will help you achieve your goal.

#6 Learning Effective Strategies For Managing Stress And Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are part of life, but they can be hugely overwhelming and impede your ability to achieve your goals, not to mention everything else. Stress has an effect on almost every aspect of your life; health, work, relationships, sleep, diet….everything. Stress management is a huge topic, one which deserves its own blog, but for now we’ll just touch on some of the effective strategies a mindset coach can teach you to help you stay focused and on track.

For me, mindfulness, meditation and deep breathing are key.  There are so many brilliant apps available (e.g Insight Timer, which is free, Headspace, Calm etc) which can guide you through exercises to quieten your mind and manage your thoughts to reduce anxiety and stress.  Physical exercise and being out in nature are both proven to shift mindset, reducing stress and anxiety, as are connecting with others, talking about what’s concerning you and laughing – it is the best medicine after all!  A good night’s rest is essential and I also find keeping a journal can be very therapeutic.  If you’re going to bed with a busy mind, write everything down, create a list of things to do for tomorrow – jot it all done and see how much better you sleep.  You’ll wake feeling relaxed and ready to take on the day.

It’s also important to identify the triggers which are causing you this stress and anxiety.  Once identified, you can work together with your mindset coach to develop coping strategies so the next time you are triggered, you can deal with it with a positive mindset.

#7 Improving Your Relationships

A mindset coach will also help you improve your relationships. While this is an important aspect of improving your self-awareness, there are other ways mindset coaching can boost your relationships. Whether it’s with friends, family, or significant others, your relationships can have a huge impact on your happiness and well-being. A coach will help you develop the skills you need to build strong, healthy, and meaningful relationships.  A lot of this is to do with being able to communicate effectively, set boundaries, manage conflict and also manage your thoughts and expectations.

Developing a growth mindset will undoubtedly transform your life. I know from first hand experience.  I used to be so stuck in my head, I couldn’t escape from my thoughts no matter what I did but I also couldn’t see a way out, I had no idea how to change my life for the better.  Until my coach came along.  I will forever be grateful for having my eyes opened, and my mind expanded. A mindset coach will be by your side, cheering you on and helping you overcome any mental barriers that are preventing you from achieving your full potential and living a fulfilling life.  You will see life in a different way, you’ll learn new skills and most importantly, you will be held accountable as you work towards achieving your goals.
