If you asked me whether you should have a Life Coach or not, I would say ‘Absolutely! Start asap!’ – not because I’m trying to sign you up but because they really work. There are loads of great benefits to having a life coach, and I know this from personal experience.
I’ve had a Life Coach on and off since I was about 38, I have two at the moment! Yes, you could baulk at the amount of money I’ve spent, but it’s my life, and the way I look at it is that I’m investing in myself and my future. Just as I pay for an expensive gym, I go daily, and it has huge benefits for my physical and mental health. I’ve never been one for splurging on clothes and handbags. I’m a seeker, I love to learn and develop, so I constantly invest in myself and my self-improvement, it’s what drives me. I want to be better and make the most of this very short time we have here, and the more I learn, the more I can share with you. It’s all about making a difference, right?
So, let’s talk about the benefits of having a life coach and what it can do for us as individuals.
#1 Open Your Mind
It’s very easy to get stuck in your own life bubble, and so often, you cannot see any way out. There are, of course, many options, but when your mind is so closed off, you literally cannot see the wood through the trees. Every turn is a dead end. We don’t know what we don’t know, and this is where a Life Coach can be really helpful as they will ask you questions, prompting you to explore new ideas and ways, sharing insights and will ultimately open up your tunnel vision.
You will have lightbulb moments, and all of a sudden, your eyes will open to opportunity, it’s like being in a whole new world.
#2 A Catalyst For Change
A Life Coach is your shortcut to life. Yes, you could carry on as you are, and eventually, you might reach the same place, but to be fair, it’s unlikely. Your coach is your catalyst for change. They will share all of the wisdom they have learned along the way so that you don’t have to do the studying, this saves you an incredible amount of time and money.
Plus, they will only share the golden nugget moments, giving you the very best information that you need to help you at that point in time. This is why as coaches, we are generally seekers. We are always seeking more and love to share useful bits of information, tips, and techniques that will literally change your life.
#3 Your Personal Cheerleader
Your Life Coach will be your personal cheerleader. Never will you have had so much support, encouragement and praise. We all seek validation and motivation – your coach will give you all that you need plus more. They will believe in you 100%, and this will give you the confidence to do whatever it is that you want to do.
#4 They Say It How It Is
Life Coaches are in a very privileged position. They are probably the only people in the world whom you will speak completely honestly with, without filtering the information in some way or another, as you know you will not be judged, and anything goes. They, too, get to do the same. They will be frank and will ask you questions that family and friends wouldn’t dare ask. When I think about it, it is such a wonderful and unique relationship.
#5 They Will Hold You Accountable
If you say you’re going to action something, your coach will hold you accountable to do so. Nowhere else in life do you have this with personal development. As a child, we have our parents and teachers, who are constantly pushing us, willing us to be the best that we can be, but as soon as we leave home or leave school, we’re on our own.
No one teaches us what to do next and how to manage ourselves; we’re left to our own devices to muddle through and make mistakes.
Maybe that’s why I like having a coach so much, as it reminds me of school and having someone to be accountable to. Any decent coach will only work with people who are motivated and ready for change so that they know they can get you the results you need/desire. If you don’t do the work, we need to understand why not. What got in the way? What can be done to prevent this from happening again?
#6 Moving On
Sometimes we are stuck because of a relationship break up, being made redundant…anything. We can all have emotional baggage which we love to keep hold of even though it’s doing us no favours. A coach will help you move on, helping you to change the way you look and feel about things, you will start to see life in a different way.
#7 Your Investment In You
Having a Life Coach is your investment in you. This is so powerful. It tells you that you believe in yourself, that you are worth developing and that you are committed to self-improvement. No one budgets for a coach, which is why it seems an unnecessary expense, yet, in reality, YOU are the very best thing you could spend your money on. Just think about what you could achieve if and when you reach your full potential?! Even the first step of hiring a coach can cause a massive shift in mindset as you realise you are worth it. If someone else paid for your coaching, it wouldn’t have the same impetus
#8 No Excuses
It’s unlikely that your Life Coach will accept excuses. “I didn’t have time!”, “I was too busy!” and “I don’t know!” will generally not be accepted. You see, we like to dig, and we like to find out what’s really going on. You can make as many excuses as you like to yourself, but that is why you are stuck and not moving forward. The only person you are doing a disservice to is yourself. As a coach, we want to see results, and we will push you (nicely) so that you get them.
